Overview
This technical college is in the heart of one of America’s large research and technology hubs.
The ideal candidate will have at least two years of teaching experience in biotechnology or related fields and three years of industry experience in gene therapy, bioprocessing, cell culture, or other related processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The instructor will teach students who joined the study program by going through a rigorous application process. The students are high-performing, dedicated to studying biotechnology, and seek early college credits. The program is designed to prepare graduates to serve in three distinct capacities: research assistant to a biologist or chemist, laboratory technician/instrumentation technician, or as a quality control/quality assurance technician.
The instructor and students will work with state-of-the-art equipment provided by a top-tier pharmaceutical company. The instructor will teach three classes per semester.
Examples of classes:
- Introduce the current ethics issues surrounding the biotechnology industries, including risk assessment, the relationships between science, technology, and society, and the effects of new biotechnology products upon the natural world.
- Provide instruction on the processes used in the production of biomolecules characterization, and the purification of biological products using fermentation, centrifugation, filtration, electrophoresis, and other techniques used in industry.
- Teach the principles of microbiology and the impact microorganisms have on man and the environment in industrial settings where controlled environments are commonplace. Topics include the structure and physiology of various classes of microorganisms, microbial pathogenicity, infectious diseases, identification schemes, and prevention or minimization of contamination in biomanufacturing industrial settings.
Qualifications (Education & Experience)
- Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Cellular / Molecular Biology, Chemistry, or related discipline.
- 2 years of teaching experience in biotechnology or related fields.
- 3 years of industry experience in gene therapy, bioprocessing, cell culture, or other related processes.
- Computer skills using basic functions of MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and Outlook.
